Recently, AMD unveiled its next-generation flagship processor, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, equipped with 3D V-Cache technology. During the presentation, the company highlighted the chip’s performance, positioning it as the ultimate gaming solution.
The official slides showcased comparisons with its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, as well as Intel’s current flagship, the Core Ultra 9 285K.
However, AMD notably avoided comparing the Ryzen 9 9950X3D to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Insider GawroskiT addressed this omission, shedding light on why AMD may have chosen to skip this particular comparison.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D Outperforms in Gaming
According to GawroskiT, the reason is simple: the Ryzen 7 9800X3D performs significantly better in gaming. A comparison slide shared by the insider, using the Core Ultra 9 285K as the 100% baseline, highlights this disparity.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D trails behind the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in nearly all games tested. It only manages to outperform in Watch Dogs Legion and Counter-Strike 2. In contrast:
- In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D lags behind by 20%.
- The gap is even wider in Cyberpunk 2077, where it falls short by a staggering 23%.
While the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is positioned as AMD’s flagship for gaming, these results indicate that its sibling, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, remains the better option for pure gaming performance in many cases.
