The authoritative German publication PC Games Hardware has published the test results for the PC version of the latest action-adventure game, Assassin's Creed Shadows.
The article was divided into two parts. In the first, they evaluated the game's performance on high-end graphics cards. Initial tests were conducted without ray tracing, upscalers, or frame generation. The GPUs tested included the GeForce RTX 5090, Radeon RX 7900 XTX, Radeon RX 9070 XT, GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti.
All of these cards are capable of delivering over 60 FPS at 1080p with maximum graphics settings and no ray tracing. However, when switching to 1440p, the average frame rate on most GPUs drops below the psychological threshold of 60 FPS. Only the GeForce RTX 5090 can achieve a stable 60 FPS at 4K resolution.
Next, the experts evaluated the game's performance with ray tracing enabled and DLSS/FSR Quality mode. Their tests revealed that upscalers almost completely compensate for the performance drop caused by enabling ray tracing.
In this mode, GPUs lose only about 3–5% of their performance compared to playing without ray tracing and upscalers.
The second part of the article focused on testing budget graphics cards, including the ARC B570, Radeon RX 6600, and GeForce RTX 2060. The game was tested at 1080p with two different settings configurations.
With the Low preset and no upscalers or frame generation, none of these GPUs could surpass the 60 FPS mark. The GeForce RTX 2060 averaged 43 FPS, while the ARC B570 and Radeon RX 6600 delivered around 50 FPS.
However, when using the Medium preset along with DLSS/FSR/XeSS Quality and frame generation, all of these GPUs managed to exceed 70 FPS.
